Potholes cost the US billions of dollars to repair. Add to that the huge cost to repair damage to vehicles and sadly, loss of life due to pothole related accidents. There are millions of miles of asphalt roads to maintain on City Streets and country Highways. Municipalities budgets are strained with this ever increasing problem.
The high private and commercial traffic on US roads and the extreme weather changes, are the major cause of potholes. Especially in the
North during the winter months, when salt and snow take it's toll.
Potholes are not only costly to repair but also cause hundreds of millions of dollars damage to vehicles. Not only to tires but also to steering and suspension not to mention one's nerves.Rough roads cost drivers an estimated $335 a year in repairs. Watch this short video which explains the problem graphically.
According to this report, New York City has 40 crews working 24/7 trying to combat the pothole problem. In just a few weeks over 46,000 potholes were repaired. The city of Philadelphia had to deal with 4800 potholes due to the extreme weather recently and DC fixed 6500 potholes this year. Almost 1/3rd of US Roads are in poor condition. This is a huge problem.
The conventional method to quickly fix a pot hole is to use "throw n go" This is a quick fix method and invariably the pothole will re-open after a month or so, necessitating another visit by the repair team.
A more permanent fix would be to use conventional asphalt, but that requires a team of trained workers with the right equipment ie:heating and compacting equipment. This method produces a better fix but is also costly as it involves many man hours and diesel and other operating expenses.
OUR SOLUTION :4Seasons™ pourable pothole filler, a liquid, rubberized, pourable filler used to fill cracks, potholes, and irregularities in asphalt & concrete pavement. This product requires no heating, no special equipment and anyone with two hands can do the work. It comes in 5 gallon buckets but is also available in bulk.
The bucket contains Part A - Liquid asphalt and Part B - Aggregate with catalyst. The method is quite simple. Remove both parts from the bucket. Shake Part A a few times to mix any settlement. Pour the liquid into the bucket. Now, open the bag of aggregate and if the temperature is below 50 degrees F, add the small bag of activator to the aggregate and shake the bag to evenly spread the activator.
Pour the aggregate into the liquid in the bucket and stir with a sturdy mixing stick. After a few seconds you will notice the mixture becoming more liquid. Continue stirring for approximately 40 seconds or until the product is liquified. From this point, you have about 3 minutes to pour into the pothole. The product is self leveling but it is advisable to make sure the product adheres to the edge of the pothole for better bonding. It only takes 40 to 60 minutes to set hard enough to open to traffic.
